Figure Style Guide
Each professor has a certain style that they like their images to be formatted as so they are consistent. The Specs from the Facchini Lab is as follows.
-
Arial Font, Size 12 -16
-
No colour, only black and white as much as possible
- Avoid grey as well
- Colours help with colour blindness and printing clarity if they happen to be reproduced
-
1 pt to 1.5 pt weight for the lines including the axis, trendlines and error bars
- Axis should have outer ticks, not inner ticks
-
Must be editable in Powerpoint
- If the figures were made in R, port them over to powerpoint as much as possible
- R only does not fly
-
Structures should be ChemDraw, 16 pt font and bolded, the weight/distance should be smaller
- Let him rearrange the structures.
-
Chromatograms should be exported into excel and drawn there in centroid mode
-
Write the methods and materials of the paper first
- Then the results, discussion and wrap it back up to the introduction
- He will only read complete drafts :(
