What on earth is this show even trying to do!! Was it an open audition or was there an even more preliminary casting call. The first two were so rough. I feel like they were probably only invited because of Ayunga as they both seem to be his fan. And the fourth one, Zhang Luhan, was absolutely phenomenal as a Sa Ding Ding fan. She really did the song, "唱左手指月那位" justice. It was so impressive that she hit those notes.
On a note about Ayunga, he seems to be channeling Liao Changyong, it's a bit funny to be honest. He better show up on Melody Journey 2 or I'll be so disappointed. He got a bad draw of songwriters in the first season.
I have no idea what's wrong with the stage but there seems to be a lot of pressure on the singers where they suddenly break down or have technical difficulties mid way. Is it the staging? The lights? Having the actual judges in front of them?
The person with a really deep voice that sounded so close to Wang Xi was extremely impressive. How to deal with an inner ear mishap can definitely be trained! Ayunga introducing them together would be excellent, he is a convincing protégé.
The guy in red, Xia Zhenxuan, who made an original composition had such a big visual gap! I really thought he was going to rap but he had a pretty endearing pop song. Striking him for a stylistic choice at the start was surprising!! Sa Ding Ding clearly resonated with his message and I love that.
The people who came with musical pieces were terrific, I really liked Zhong Jiacheng as well. Clearly well practiced with great facial expressions. I think he is the highlight for me as well.
Passing the twins was so surprising?? Especially the first one, she had weaker vocals than her sister that followed.
Liu Luoyan was SO surprising. She sang What is Love in the BTS footage and then sang the Magic Flute!! Amazing! It's a pity that the key was too high and she sounded squeaky at the pivotal movements. If she picked a opera in her range, I think she would have passed.
Hu Xiaoling got so much screen time and for what? Strange bout of favoritism with the cameras I guess? He does have a nice voice and fits well under Sa Ding Ding's folk tone. He got eliminated because there was an emotional disconnect between the song and the singer but still passed in the last round anyways. Ayunga seems displeased with the choices.
They suddenly blasted through 7 different Bel Canto singers who apparently got all three rejections. Only to fast forward the time for the Cantonese speaker who ended up singing in Mandarin anyways??
Also surprise ending that Xia Zhenxuan made it into the next round!! Good on him! They should scoop him for Melody Journey 2 and see if he has any other songs in his pocket.
Looking at the previews, Ayunga is not a judge for ep 2 :( but they have Yu Di instead so that fills the spot. I wonder if they have so many Bel Canto singers in rotation due to their appearance fee or for their busy schedules? Shang Wenjie is doing more variety shows, Ayunga is directing his own musical and the head of a musical troupe, Zheng Yunlong is playing Hamlet and Yu Di is a professor.
